Multifandom Horror Exchange 2020

I'm so sorry this took so long! If you've already started, feel free to disregard my prompts, they're (as always) just suggestions.

Hello, Multifandom Horror writer/artist! I’m also plutonianshores on AO3, and I have several previous letters on this journal if you want to look back at what I’ve requested in past exchanges. I’m requesting fic and art, and focusing on/not focusing on sexual content, for all fandoms. I’m sticking to listing horror likes in this letter, but feel free to page back through my journal if you want to get an idea of my general likes.

In general, feel free to take free rein in my requested horror subgenres! There are very few things I won’t like, and I’ve covered all of those in my DNWs. Horror tropes played straight and horror tropes subverted are both great. I am fine with anything along the range from happy to ambiguous to bad endings, and feel free to kill off any characters.

• Sanity Slippage, characters not sure what’s real and what’s in their heads

Feel free to keep Pennywise as the main source of horror, or do a subgenre swap and have the problem with Derry be something entirely different! For the poly Loser romantic ship, one giant polyblob is good but so is a set of interlacing relationships. I have no preferences on age of characters.

Ships

• Bill Denbrough & Mike Hanlon & Ben Hanscom & Beverly Marsh & Richie Tozier, Losers Club – Platonic, Losers Club - Romantic – I love the Losers Club friendship and I want more of them combating unnatural horrors together! During the course of canon is great, as is them having to face yet another horror movie plot after vanquishing Pennywise.


• Bill Denbrough/Mike Hanlon – I would especially love these two going on a road trip together post-canon and running into more monsters or ghosts or a cult or a sinister town or what have you


• Solo: Mike Hanlon – I’m especially into Mike’s time in Derry and his research into Pennywise. Something epistolary with him reading into historical events is very welcome, as is him interviewing other Pennywise survivors about their experiences. Or maybe a crossover where he meets people who’ve experienced other horror scenarios?

Genres

• Type: Folk Horror – Derry is halfway to the stereotypical folk horror town already, I’d love to see you take it all the way there. Maybe the town willingly sacrifices children every 27 years? The historical elements of the movie are really fun to me, and I’d love to see the history of Derry delved into in a folk horror work (feel free to either draw from the novel or make up your own). Derry’s isolation from the rest of the world and the memory loss that befalls everyone who leaves it also has great potential here


• Type: Killer Horror – We have a tiny hint of this in Bowers in Chapter Two, or you could make Pennywise into a regular serial killer instead of a killer clown from outer space (or just emphasize the murder part of the original movie!). I’d love to see the kid Losers trying to track down a serial killer that none of the adults in the town seem to be paying attention to, or as adults watching the return of a killer (or perhaps a copycat killer) to their town (maybe this time outside media pays attention?)


• Type: Monster Horror – this is just a freebie to write or draw me some canon-typical Pennywise horror. I’m very into Pennywise tormenting a Loser while disguised as that Loser or a friend (and feel free to apply that to noncon if you’d like! Adult Losers being nonconned by their kid selves would be especially fun).


• Type: Body Horror – I’d be really interested in Pennywise-sustained injuries getting Really Weird, and any of the characters surviving a near-deadly attack with some horrible side effects. Came-Back-Wrong with Stan or Eddie (or another Loser if you’d like) would be very fun. Pennywise doing horrible things to the Losers as it holds them captive is also very welcome


• Type: Violent Horror – Any gore would be great, really! Pennywise torturing any or all of the Losers is great, as is focus on Eddie’s death or killing off any other Losers. I am especially fond of broken bones (especially compound fractures), vivisection, and dislocation

Critical Role – Campaign 2

Fandom-specific DNWs:

• modern/mundane AUs. I really want horror that keeps the D&D species and some sort of magic, and the pantheon of Exandria (although feel free to go for a historical AU or other setting-change AU that keeps those aspects)


• Polynein fic that includes every member of the Mighty Nein expect for Nott

Ships

• Astrid/Eodwulf/Caleb Widogast – these three have really great horror potential in my opinion. Maybe a horror take on their training with Ikithon, or the three of them on a mission that brings them into the path of a monster. Or perhaps they’re the antagonists in a horror story!


• Nott & Caleb Widogast – I love these two and would love to see them in any horror plot you’d like! Especially something pre-canon during the time when they can only depend on each other, but the two of them as the focus of a Mighty Nein gift or in a scenario where they’re separated from the M9 is also great! I also ship them if you’d like to go that direction.


• The Mighty Nein – Platonic, The Mighty Nein - Romantic - you don’t need to focus equally on everyone, I would just love to see ensemble fic/art about the M9 facing down monsters or ghosts or cults or what have you.

Genres

• Type: Body Horror – for Caleb (and Astrid and Eodwulf), there’s some real potential with Ikithon’s crystal insertion...you could go with a body horror-heavy focus on that or perhaps he tried other modifications to "improve" his students? Nott’s transformation is also a great font for body horror. And in general, there’s so much potential for forced transformation or mutation with this fandom!


• Type: Folk Horror – I would love to see any of my groups seek out a town for a quest, only to find that there is something very strange going on. Or for Caleb/Astrid/Eodwulf, perhaps Ikithon is a cult leader? Folk horror in general could be very interesting in this setting, with the way we’ve seen antagonists trying to raise gods and characters basically creating their own gods – lots of room to play with a Wicker Man-style created religion setup.


• Type: Gothic Horror – I’d love to see any of my requested groups in a creepy haunted mansion or other typical setting, maybe building off of canon backstory (the Soltryce Academy? Beau’s or Jester’s family homes? The Blooming Grove? Fjord’s orphanage?) Feel free to focus on a given member of the Mighty Nein instead of all of them for this prompt, I’d really love to see a genre-swap of canon playing with any gothic horror tropes you like.


• Type: Paranormal Horror – I would especially love to see any of my requested ships being haunted! I love ghost stories and I’d love to see how they might fit into Critical Role’s setting. Maybe they come across a haunted location during a quest, maybe Molly (or something that resembles Molly) comes back to haunt them, maybe one or more of them are haunted by figures from their past...For the Mighty Nein, I’d be especially interested in what Caduceus’ view on ghosts would be, given his canonical views on death. For Caleb (and/or Astrid and Eodwulf), seeing them haunted by people they’ve killed could be really cool!


• Type: Religious Horror – I’m very interested in how religious horror would play out given the pantheon of the game. You could use Ukotoa’s cult and/or the Chained Oblivion, or pick another god you’d like to! I’m especially into possession, and the use of religious symbols to combat evil (we have a few clerics and several other gods represented in the group, so there’s a lot you could play with here!)

Critical Role – Campaign 1

Ships

• Solo: Cassandra de Rolo -Cassandra is my fave Campaign 1 NPC, and I just want to see more horrible things happen to her. Her canon plotline is great if you want to play around with her time with the Briarwoods, or you could do something post-canon or a complete AU. Whitestone itself has great potential for horror if you want to set something there! I’m also very into AUs where Cassandra is the one who escapes the Briarwoods and joins Vox Machina instead of Percy. If you want to include a ship I enjoy any Cassandra femslash, as well as Cassandra/Sylas or Cassandra/Percy


• Cassandra de Rolo & Vex'ahlia, Cassandra de Rolo/Vex'ahlia – I love Vex’s plotline in canon about becoming a part of Whitestone, and would love to see Cassandra added in there in addition to or in place of Percy.


• Cassandra de Rolo & Vox Machina


• Delilah Briarwood/Cassandra de Rolo – more horror set during the Briarwood occupation of Whitestone please! There’s especially potential for gothic horror or folk horror here, or of course vampires, but go wild with any of my requested genres. You’re welcome to either include or ignore Sylas as you wish.


• Vox Machina – Platonic, Vox Machina – Romantic- you don’t need to focus equally on everyone, I would just love to see ensemble fic/art about Vox Machina facing down monsters or ghosts or cults or what have you.

Genres

• Type: Dark Fantasy – My first thought here is Whitestone-based horror. There’s some real creepy potential with Vex’s role as Keeper of the White Hunt, or perhaps Cassandra had a special role in the de Rolo family line. Playing with the Faewild as a setting could also be really fun. I’m also a big fan of magic that comes at a personal cost (physical, mental, whatever) to the person wielding it, which fits well with the dark fantasy genre if you want to roll with that. Honestly anything you’d like to do to horror-ify the fantasy of Critical Role is very welcome here!


• Type: Folk Horror – we already have a cult dedicated to Vecna, which would be really fun to genre-bend into something folk horror! Or I would love to see any of my groups seek out a town for a quest, only to find that there is something very strange going on. Or again, Whitestone-based folk horror would be super neat – it’s already an isolated community with a charismatic family at its head, either the de Rolos or the Briarwoods would make great antagonists here.


• Type: Gothic Horror – I just love the trappings of creepy castles (Whitestone or Greyskull Keep?), dark secrets, and possibly incestuous vibes. For Cassandra this feels an especially good fit for something canon-based or AU about her time with the Briarwoods! Or Vox Machina or any of my groups staying at an Original Creepy Mansion, coming to the creeping realization that something is very wrong here.


• Type: Paranormal Horror - I would especially love to see any of my requested ships being haunted! I love ghost stories and I’d love to see how they might fit into Critical Role’s setting. Maybe they come across a haunted location during a quest, maybe Cassandra’s family or Vex’s mother (or something that resembles them) comes back to haunt them, maybe one or more of them are haunted by figures from their past...Whitestone being haunted in a post-canon fic would be especially fun, but go wild with where and when you set your ghosts!

For all three ships I would just really love to see them taking on something supernatural or otherwise horror instead of or in addition to tracking down a serial killer! I would love to see them (especially Laszlo) trying to take an analytical approach to anything they face and that slowly failing. More plain old crime written or drawn in a horror tone would also be really great!

Genres

• Type: Cosmic/Lovecraftian Horror – I just think the dark mood of this canon would be perfect for some Lovecraftian horror. Maybe Beecham is sacrificing boys in order to free a dark god from its bonds, or maybe something else entirely comes up. Given Laszlo’s profession, perhaps the plot starts by him meeting someone who’s been driven mad by eldritch horror beyond man’s comprehension. For art, I am really into the characters staring in horror at horrific monstrosities roaming the city streets or emerging from Hudson Bay or what have you


• Type: Folk Horror – I would really love to see any of my ships going to an isolated village in upstate New York to investigate a murder, and finding something horrible there. Maybe there’s something dark lurking in Beecham’s hometown, or maybe someone important disappears while traveling and it turns out they became a human sacrifice, or anything else you’d like! I just really love this genre


• Type: Killer Horror – canon is halfway to this genre already, so I’d love to see something that leans into the horror! Something post-canon with them investigating a new killer would be super fun. One of the characters being captured and tortured by the killer would be delightful


• Type: Paranormal Horror – logical characters trying to come to terms with being haunted is my absolute favorite thing, and I feel like that setup would fit in great with this canon. Maybe they end up coming face-to-face with the ghost of one of the victims while investigating a murder, maybe a ghost is the killer! A cursed object that causes people to murder would also be really fun, as would them having to interact with spiritualist or mediums (perhaps who know far less about ghosts than they say)

Wolf 359

Ships

• Solo: Isabel Lovelace – Lovelace is the perfect character for some horror works. I love the horror potential of being dragged back to life after dying, and the potential for body horror (or other horror) in her being a duplicate. Cutter and/or Pryce experimenting on her would also be super fun!


• Isabel Lovelace/Renée Minkowski (Wolf 359) – Any of the stuff I said about solo Lovelace still goes here. I just love this ship and would love to see them facing down evil together!

Genres

• Type: Body Horror – with both Lovelace’s immortal state and the weird science in the canon, there is so much potential for body horror. Just things happening to Lovelace spontaneously would be delightful, as would something induced by Cutter and Pryce.


• Type: Medical Horror – you know when Cutter and Pryce have taken over the ship and have everyone captive? The potential for medical experimentation is so high and I want alllll the horror fanworks taking advantage of that


• Type: Monster Horror – facing down something terrifying on the Hephaestus! We see Minkowski fighting the plant monster in canon, and something similar to that, with a monster lurking in the vents and Lovelace and/or Minkowski fighting it would be so great


• Type: Psychological Horror – The Empty Man was an absolute delight of an episode, and I’d love some psychological horror along those lines. The enclosed environment of the Hephaestus is a great setting to really take advantage of this genre: there’s no escape from whatever is haunting or hunting them, and it seems more and more enclosed the closer the horror looms.


• Type: Science-Fiction Horror – Perhaps Hera’s circuitry gets corrupted and she tries to murder the crew, or Pryce and Cutter do a bit more experimenting on Lovelace and Minkowski. Or you could do something with their encounters with the Dear Listeners, or have the Hephaestus begin to fail?

The Terror (TV) 2018)

Canon-era stuff is great, AUs where the characters are still in England or in other locations are great, go wherever the genres take you!

Ships

• Harry D. S. Goodsir & Dr Alexander McDonald, Harry D. S. Goodsir/Dr Alexander McDonald – I really loved their lead poisoning conversation and would love to see these two taking down something else together (also listen, Goodsir is such a slut for McDonald’s approval)


• Harry D. S. Goodsir & Lady Silence | Silna – I love the way these two act, I love the differences in cultural outlook and the language barrier, and I would love to see more of them together!


• John Bridgens/Harry Peglar – these two are the tragic canon ship of my heart and I want to see more horrible things happen to them. I think they would be especially suited to a ‘comes back wrong’ take, with Peglar resurrected but wrong, or perhaps something that only looks like Peglar coming back, and Bridgens being unwilling to let him go no matter how dangerous he is


• Lady Silence | Silna & Thomas Blanky – what an interesting team-up! The two of them could kick some serious ass together fighting something non-Tuunbaq and I would love to see it


• Solo: Cornelius Hickey – I love this sociopathic rat bastard and I would love to see him either facing down a monster or being the monster Hickey being literally haunted by his victims would be great, and I’m kind of in love with him nonchalantly (at first) ignoring the ghosts tormenting him


• Solo: Harry D. S. Goodsir – Goodsir is great, his scientific curiosity and the slow crushing of his idealism into hopelessness is great, please do more horrible things to him! I’d especially love to see him in an investigative role in whatever horror plot you decide on


• Solo: Sophia Cracroft – I would love Sophia to get in on the horror! Maybe she manages to get to the Arctic and runs into the Tuunbaq, the depths of man’s depravity, or a new horror you’d like to portray! Or perhaps something set back in England, maybe her being haunted by ghosts from the expedition


• Sophia Cracroft/Captain Francis Crozier/Commander James Fitzjames – I think something post-canon with these three having to face down a new horror when Crozier and Fitzjames are already weary from the things they’ve already endured would be super fun! Or maybe you find a way to get Sophia to the Arctic?

Genres

• Type: Body Horror – you could go with the diseases and injuries of canon for this, or have something supernatural happen. Goodsir trying to treat any injuries, especially supernatural ones, would be really great, especially if you dwell on the futility of it. Frostbite and infected wounds and scurvy all have some serious body horror potential, or maybe Tuunbaq-incurred injuries do strange and unnatural things to the people unlucky enough to sustain them


• Type: Folk Horror – I am so in love with the idea of any of my requested characters/groups going back to England and settling in what they think will be a quaint and relaxing village, only to discover something very sinister. Or, especially for the Silna ships, you could have them end up in an English settlement in Canada where the isolation has made the residents...strange. (I’d prefer no folk horror with the Netsilik or other native people as the antagonists)


• Type: Gothic Horror – I would love to see any of these groupings in an ominous mansion or a gothic village, or in the darker corners of London. Fitting any of my requested characters into a gothic horror AU would be really fun!


• Type: Killer Horror – I would so love to see a killer stalking the ships and slowly picking people off, and the horror of the characters being trapped while more and more people are dying and the higher-ups can’t seem to find the culprit. Hickey is the obvious choice to turn serial killer here, but you can go for whoever you like!


• Type: Paranormal Horror- with all the canon deaths, there is so much potential for ghosts! People being haunted during the course of canon, or being followed home by ghosts in a some-characters-live AU


• Type: Psychological Horror – You could totally just play up the aspects of canon about being trapped and slowly realizing your doom here, or you could do an AU set somewhere else. There’s real potential here with Hickey manipulating his gang of mutineers into murder and such too.


• Type: Violent Horror – anything is great here, just go wild and play up the gore! Tuunbaq attacks are great, human-caused murders are great, anything else is great too! I am especially fond of broken bones (especially compound fractures), vivisection, and dislocation. A dark!Goodsir cutting apart living subjects would be great, some canon-typical cannibalism with Hickey and the mutineers is great.
